Star Theatre, which began it's journey from 68 Beadon Street, was demolished by the British Government in 1931.This was done while Central Avenue was extended.The present Star Theater, which was built in December 1887 stands on Bidhan Sarani. Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday declared that it will be renamed as Binodini Theatre. In 1874 the actress, at the age of 12, played a serious role in Calcutta's National Theatre under the mentorship of Girish Chandra Ghosh, it's founder. It was through him that Binodini Dasi, who was ostracized due to her origins in Kolkata's red light area, became Bengal's pioneering female stage actress.

From its regular habitate (Simlipal Forest) a tiger wandered around 300km for 21 days.It roamed through 3 States of India evading 200 men who were persueing it to tranquillize it. Zeenat, the name of the tiger, was finally captured on this Sunday at 3.56pm from Bankura's Gosaindihi village. Another 200km to be added since it was brought to Kolkata's Alipore Zoo. "After checking it's health & vital parameters she will be sent back to her former destination," said a Bengal forest department officer.

A debt ridden doctor burned a 32 year old daily wage earner.He did this in desperation to get rid of his financial obligation. It was pre-planned just to create a fake story of his own death. The Baghpat based doctor took a loan of Rs 30 lakh which he was unable to pay. To avoid his tormenter he tried to create a fake death of himself.He desperately looked for a  corpse but failed. Finally he lured Sonu, the daily wage labourer, with the promise of free drink. Dr Mubarik (his name) took him to an isolated place near a canal in Saharanpur. According to his plan an empty car was ready for the crime. When Sonu went inside he locked and burned the car !

According to John Miller aged 77 years old-after leaving airplane at great height they simply forget their arthritis, pains and aches.

A 500 years old boot was recently discovered in the Alkmaar city. As always believed that farmers used wooden shoes during work, Silke Lange, an archaeologist said ' Actually this boot was from an urban contex'. The boot was found while constructing an underground waste container in Alkmaar, situated around 30 km nortwest of Amsterdam. From 1450 to 1558 these cesspits were used as toilet and waste disposal- said the archaeologist.
