No Star Theater in Kolkata
Star Theatre, which began it's journey from 68 Beadon Street, was demolished by the British Government in 1931.This was done while Central Avenue was extended.The present Star Theater, which was built in December 1887 stands on Bidhan Sarani.
Bengal's Chief Minister Mamata Banerjee on Monday declared that it will be renamed as Binodini Theatre.
In 1874 the actress, at the age of 12, played a serious role in Calcutta's National Theatre under the mentorship of Girish Chandra Ghosh, it's founder.
It was through him that Binodini Dasi, who was ostracized due to her origins in Kolkata's red light area, became Bengal's pioneering female stage actress.
