About tiger & tigress !!

He was perhaps the most notable princely cricketer-Tiger Pataudi. His wife another notable celebrity from film world-Sharmila Tagore (now)Ayesha Sultana. A tigress herself-she has decided to bring to record the scattered and encroached properties of the Bhopal Nawabs. Overburdened by her husband's death, she took it upon herself to resolve a decade old family dispute. Her husband's fair-weather friends (mostly opportunists) may not feel very comfortable henceforth. The Nawabs who ruled Bhopal from 1723 & 1947-on the other hand -might breath a little easier in their ancestral graves !

Old Musical Shop of North Calcutta !

Image
It could be around 100years old musical shop. Of course it began its journey from Dhaka and came to rest in Calcutta only on 1953- as Suman Karmakar claims. Panchkori,Badal & Biswanath all titled Karmakars-first started the shop & now it is Suman Karmakar's responsibility to keep the flag flying. Indirectly exported Sitar, Tanpura etc to US, UK Europe etc.

Facebook jobs in India !

All those who have slept and dreamt on Facebook would now probably have a chance to know the mechanisms that keeps the social networking site going. Previously FB had a very small presence in India as far as placements were concerned. Now, fortunately, it has decided to come back in a big way. Hence cheer up young guys since the number of application forms would be more than that of the other companies !

NRIs Homeward Bound ?

It is probably true that many senior Indian professionals working in foreign countries(US,UK,Europe) are seriously thinking of settling back in India. This is perhaps due to the growing uncertainties in Western countries. Especially those working in banking,IT,telecom, retail, hospitality & automotive etc. Some of them have already lost their jobs and are finding it hard to get another. They are hopeful that the India growth story might give them the required relief.Besides, bringing their children to the mainstream families & their own culture too could be an important factor!

No nicotine Obama !

Mr.Obama, the American President, finally accepted the fact that quitting smoking is really tough. But tough situation always keep the toughs moving. Fortunately he succeeded in over coming the habit by saying 'No' to tobacco (helped by nicotine gum?). During his October physical check up he was declared 'a tobacco free person'.

LPG Gas Leakage Emergency-Kolkata !

Wonder how many users of Domestic LPG GAS Cylinders in Kolkata found the correct Emergency Number when in dire need ! Even if one is lucky enough to locate a number through Internet or otherwise-only God knows if that would be of any use. Just had this experience when my cylinder started leaking and the supplier refused to attend. Whom to complain ?

The Super Woman Of India !

Wonder if anyone has ever heard of a woman delivering a baby every week. And that too within a year! She had been successful in delivering 52 children within this particular time frame. One must be wondering that, perhaps, this could be the reason why India is rapidly catching up with China's population. Sorry-the error lies somewhere else.In the so called Record Keeper's book.Someone has exploited the rule(Rs1400 for each delivery) and has pocketed around Rs72,800 by putting the name of the same woman for each delivery. Interesting isn't it ?

Wonder why there is a great difference in reports served by Google Analytics and Blogger Stats ! Number of visits , pages and all other reporting datas does not seem to match each other's report !!

From Tagore to Shahrukh Khan !!

Bengal always thought beforehand what India thought later. The latest thinking tank of Bengal decides to make Shahrukh Khan Brand Ambassador of Bengal ! Only Bengal could switch gears from Tagore to Shah- rukh Khan quite quickly ! In fact -very quickly !!

Richest Chinese Village ?

Huaxi is probably the richest village in China. It brags of a 74 storey hotel-15th tallest building in the world with 2nos Bulls at 60th & 62nd floors. These two are probably the most expensive Bulls in the world! One made of pure gold and the other made of pure silver-each of them weighing a ton! Hats off to the rich residents - who worked as a 'commune' while still registering themselves as villagers !

Elephant Rampage in Burdwan !

It was shocking to know from the Newspapers that a privately owned elephant trampled a child after he had his five minutes fun ride. Vivek a boy of class two, who decided to reward the elephant after the fun ride with a ten rupee note, was suddenly caught by the elephant by its trunk and flung twice before trampling him to death. That too before his horrified parents ! Wonder if such incidents are shown in Animal Planet to create awarness !!

99 vs 1% !!

No matter what the Wall Street Occupy or Dalal Street Occupay says -it is true that the World will always be ruled by few persons or organisations or countries ! It will proably be like a pilot in an airoplane where the fate of passengers lies on few hands ! Hence the Sterring Wheel will always be in few hands ! The driver or pilot, of course, might change from time to time ! Or there might be a new formula of percentages !

Migratory birds at Santragachi Jheel.

Our heartiest congratulations to those citizens who took upon themelves to clean the Santragachi Jheel-while the Forest Department failed in its duty.According to Arjan Basu Roy around 70% of the lake has been freed from the encroaching hyacinth. Hence welcome, once again,Gadwalls,Garganey Teals, Fulvous & Lesser Whistling Ducks.

This was perhaps the first privately run Bengali school in Calcutta. It was established by Gour Mohon Addy in the year 1829. Men like Rabindra Nath Tagore, Umesh Ch.Banerjee,Girish Ch.Ghosh & may other eminent persons studied here.

Is vacum an empty space ?

We have long been taught to believe that vacuum is suppused to be an empty space. But scientists now are sceptical to this long or orthodox belief. Wolfgang Sander, president of the German Physics Society,is a firm believer that even the truest vacuum contain pairs of molecules . In fact this could be proved through an extremely powerful laser -powerful enough to boil the so called fabric of space-THE VACUUM!!

Even hearts are polluted !!

In a recent interview Shahruk Khan, a famous filmstar, stated that he always advised his child to listen to his Heart. A good piece of advice by a caring father, no doubt, but how far this advice could go-is the sacred question ! In the present world everyone usually targets the one & only one precious thing left in human being !! The Heart !!!!!

Chitpur Jatra Para 2011

Those empty chairs will not remain empty for long! Jatra once patronised by Zamindars of Old Calcutta-still in limelight. One could just look around and find changes everywhere but Chitpur Jatra para still attracts "Bainadars" from far away places !

Saif Ali Khan's Coronation !

Wonder what could be the effect of Saif Ali Khan's Coronation ! India doesn't seems to like things like this ! After all this is Democracy ! But do we really love the people who rule the country. The question once again goes back to " Do we like Dynasty Rule?" Congratulations, however, to the new Nawab of Pataudi !

Christie's failure ?

One cannot help but be shocked to know that sculptures and paintings by Degas and Picasso remained unsold inspite of Christie's highly charged marketing. Probably collectors are more bent towards surrealist art and that maybe the reason why Max Ernst's "The Stolen Mirror" painted in or around 1941 in US- made a kill by becoming the topmost seller !

Bangladesh & Lt.Gen. A.S.Lamba !

How could we forget the last full fleged war fought by the Indian Army in 1971-to give birth to Bangladesh. During that period he was the second lieutenant in his artillery unit who gave fire support to the Indian Infan- try, which made daring attempt to break through Pakis- tan's defence in the Jessore-Khulna-Dhaka axis !! Our salute to Lt.Gen.A.S.Lamba who just retired to hand over charges to Lt.Gen.S.K.Singh.

Marketing vs Customer's Feedback !

An overburdened Exucative, trying to snatch a quick meal at a roadside foodstall, was intercepted by a Salesman ! While trying to control his patiance he, however, decided to hear it out. His patiance ran out when he found the Salesman talking rubbish. "What's that ?" "Marketing !" Without wasting a moment the Exucative slapped him. "What's that ?" a perplexed Salesman. "Customer's feedback!" the prompt reply !

Chatu Babu's Pigeons !

Image
We have all heard of pigeon flying in Old Calcutta. In fact it was a prestige fight between renowned Zamindars who took much pains to collect pigeons from various sources. Chatu Babu's pigeons were perhaps the best among others who also took special care to bring skilled and even foreign pigeons.Who has not heard of those fights over pigeons between Deb Babus & Mullick Babu's of Old Calcutta. North Calcutta has still been able to maintain this old tradition. Perhaps the oldest Pigeon Racing Club still exists in Maniktalla, North Calcutta.

Chicken Hotch Potch & Tradition !

Traditional Chicken Hotch Potch vs present day various experiments. There was a time when chicken was chicken & not hen or cock. But days have changed and now few knows the difference between a chicken or a hen or maybe a cock. On any given day one could find a new item in chicken being shown in some TV Channel & given some new name, perhaps to make it popular. The reason , of course , is related to some commercial gain ! There is probably no harm in experimenting and by doing so make a name or a fortune , if one can !! But it takes time to kill a Tradition-isn't it ? Besides what is the harm in keeping Chicken Hotch Potch in your menu ?

Ramdulal De's relatives ?

Someone (probably) in a website is claiming that one Brajendranath De & one Baidyanath De belongs to the same branch of family to which Ramdulal De (Deb) belonged ! Would somebody enlighten ?

Catch them by ears-For Vote !

Ever heard of any election candidate catching people's ears for vote. Tadagathi, a 102 years old lady contesting for Panchyat Election, did exactly that. Throughout her long life she had done a great job by midwifing nearly 1000 babies most of whome( also their parents) were voters from that village. She used a new technic by catching people by their ears while telling them to vote for her. Strangely she won the election. This is what love and true service to the society can do !

Gaurd your secret informations !

Imagine what can happen if your bank acount or credit card number or password is exposed to some unknown person ! This is usually done through phishing. It comes in various forms-a Facebook Message a fake mail or a log in page of a bank/credit card site.It can even be a Facebook or a Google site. You try to log in and thereby give away your username, password etc. To gaurd against this one must keep the Adress Bar visible. This can help you to know that you are on the right webmail page.

Sutanuti Parishad

Image
Sutanuti Parishad organizes various programs- especially- to create awareness to the unaware present & older generation about the rich histories created by our forefathers. After watching some of their programs one could not help but say that "We are proud of our past but ashamed of our present in various important fields." Hallmark in India-Questionable ?

Hallmark was first introduced in the year 1721 at Goldsmith Hall in London. It became necessary due to most laymen's poor understanding of the precious metals. Unfortunately this mark seems to be fast loosing its importance. The watchdog Bureau Of Indian Standard is at a loss to to find that the mark is being misused to deceive customers. Probably the involvement of private players and derth of proper vigilance -responsible for such a situation !

Chatu Babu & His Musicians.

Asutosh Deb(Chatu Babu)was well known for his love for Dhrupad & Tappa Music. In fact he was a musician himself and renowned artists from the country were invited to perform at his Beadon Street Sabhaghar. He encouraged artists from Bishnupur for their deep understanding of Dhrupad Music. One among them was Ram Keshab Bhattacharya who later became his Sabhagayak. Famous Bai's & Dancers too performed at Chatu Babu's Nachghar. He himself was a sitarist-infact the first Bengali Sitarist !

Successful living-An Art ?

It is true that we are sometime nothing but the plaything of circumstance.Playing a meaningless part in a shaky stage to a hostile audience. But to think that we are weaklings in the hand of destiny will most certainly undermine our wills and sap our initiatives. However, if we could master the art of "Living each second fully" then seldom will there be time for regrets and useless fretting over our dreams that remained unfulfilled.

Beehive at Beadon Street !

Image
The Beehive seems to be growing at an alarming rate.Since it is just ahead of the main gate of a School there is enough reason to be concerned. Wonder if it could be removed before the School reopens after the Puja Vacation ! The School is near Latoo Babu Lane !

Maruti vs Hyundai !

Eon,the new car by Hyundai, was launched in Calcutta on 18th Oct 2011 by Mr.R.Sethuraman.It is possible that the present labour unrest at Maruti would be a God sent opp- ortunity to Hyundai.Maruti Suzuki's Alto is perhaps the largest selling car in India.Hence there is every possi- bility that the low priced Eon could make a record sale. Who knows it might help the Company to increase its over- all market share to around twenty per cent within a year or two. Windfall gains?

Long live Shakespeare !

There had already been a lot of controversies regarding the identity of William Shakespeare.Questions like-how could an almost illiterate person have penned such Classics like Hamlet Julius Caesar etc along with various Sonnets - still prevails. Recently a film has been made (Anonymous)which will be released in Britain soon-contradicts our belief once again. It is possibly trying to throw some hints that the actual author of these master- pieces was the 17th Earl of Oxford-Edward de vere ! Just another controversy or marketing histry ?

Calcutta Trams !

When trams were first introduced in Calcutta they had only one coach. The 2nd coach was attached in or around the year 1900.While the 1st coach seats were cushioned the 2nd had wooden ones.Conductors usually showed more respect to the 1st class passengers.Calcutta Tramways was British owned but later it was nationalized in 1978.1st class coaches has ceiling fans & with different kind of seating arrangements which the 2nd class doesn't. It seems that the Govt. now plans to end this distinction and grant equal facilities to both the classes. Some new trams introduced on 2007 ofcourse already enjoys these facilities !

Chatu Babu's Song ?

Ramdulal De & 18th Century Caste System !

As like now -during 18th century money acted as the great equalizer to build and rebuild the Caste System. Kaliprasad Dutta belonged to a wealthy Kayastha family. It is said that he married a muslim lady. For this and for many other reasons he was ostrasized by the upper Hindu elites. Ramdulal helped him out by placating a large number of important Brahmins with gifts & money. Thus Kaliprasad Dutta once again got back his position in the upper Kayastha society. In fact Ramdulal is said to have mentioned among his friends " I keep caste in my coffers."
