North Kolkata Calling !!

Jhulan Yatra also known as Swing Festival occurs during the month of Sravan . Lord Krishna and Radha enjoys each other's company while taking a ride in a Swing. In Calcutta or Kolkata this celebration takes place at ' Chatu Babu Latu Babu's Thakurbari ' 67E Beadon Street. The Tradition here is being maintained for many years.This will be the229th year. Various programmes will be held from 31st July till 5th August from 7 or 7.30 pm. Note : Year 2011 Jhulan at Chatu Babu Latu Babu's Thakurbari begins from 9th August & ends on 13th August. They were friends from their very childhood. At last the time came when they should part company for more important worldly matters. He was a poor boy working for a merchant. The merchant found him intellegent. One day he sent him to an auction. Finding the material already sold the boy got interested in a submerged ship. He offered Rs. 14000/- and the deal was done. Within an hour he found an interested customer and sold the ship for Rs. 1,14,000/-. The merchant was impressed and took only his share and left Rs.100,000/- for the boy. Now the boy ventured for his own business. Within short time he flourished and had 4 ships of his own. In fact, it was this very boy who latter pioneered the Indo- American Trade Relation. The American traders were so impressed that they presented him with a life sieze painting of George Washington. Durga Puja is considered as the biggest festival in India. Not only Hindus but every community, forgetting caste, creed etc. participate and enjoy the Puja in some way or other.People not only from India but around the world take part and also become a part of this all important festival. Calcutta or Kolkata is, of course, the greatest crowd puller. Both the Traditional as well as Pandal Puja attracts large number of visiters. This year the Durga Puja will be celebrated in September.

Yes- the world will always remember Neil Armstrong as the first man to walk on moon. It was on the year 1969 and hence this will be the 40 th Year of that historical joy which the entire world witnessed.

Philip Collins was detected cancer by his doctor. He had only six months to live said the doctor. Philip decided to enjoy these six months so that he would have no regret. He left his job, collected his provident fund money and did everything that money could do. He even paid for his funeral charges in advance. Cambridge will be celebrating its 800th year. In this respect popular pubs of Cambridge will be serving beer tasting more or less as it tasted 800 years ago when the first batch got its entry. Happy celebration !!

It is most unfortunate that Kolkata once again is in the limelight for all the wrong reasons. Wonder if this state of disorder will only help another Nano to leave the State.

It was a nice morning when I took a rick shaw to bring home a newly bought computer. It was somewhere near M. G. Road when a policeman intercepted. There was a bit of argument between the rickshawalla and the policeman. Suddenly the latter grabbed the rickshaw and tried to take it towards a particular direction. It was too much for me and so I decided to intervene. To my utter surprise the ' keeper of law ' behaved in a manner which was not very pleasant for a gentleman to bear.

It is in the news that River Eupharates is getting shorter and shorter. Is the Judgement Day drawing nearer ?

Kolkata is my birthplace. I have been living here for a long time. Its a pity that I still find this city as interesting as before. May this city be blessed with all that is beautiful & serene !
