North Kolkata Calling !!

Arpita Nandi, a Table Tennis player from Bengal, after winning the finals of DGQA Inter Zonal Table Tennis Tournament at Icchapur Ordinance Factory, felt uncomfortable and collapsed. She was only 32 years old. When taken to hospital she was declared dead !

I have seen him only once in my life yet how remarkably he still exists in my mind. I was around 30 when I first saw him. It was the first and unfortunately the very last time that I ever met him-at least so I thought! He looked like any other, a very ordinary man with shabby dress and long hairs. There were some other features too that reminded me of my school days. I was in Madan Cabin,a local tea shop in our locality. Usually our friends took out some time to spend there. It was around 6pm and, as usually, 3/4 friends were with me. We were busy discussing with those day's hot topic. Suddenly we noticed the man , with a peculiar look, paying attention to whatever we were saying.I have already mention some common features of the man.Those who have read "Treasure Island" by R L Stevenson would be in a better position to relate him with Long John Silver since he too was a one eyed man.He was of course not a one legged man though. Senior citizens have become the easy targets of the cyber crooks. Interstate gangs have become very active in duping them at the drop of a hat. Delhi, Jharkhand, Madhya Pradesh, Karnataka as well as Bengal.Four were arrested from Asansol and Jharkhand on this Thursday. Although police are keeping a close watch on such crimes yet there seems to be no stopping!

           

The little one whom I have seen as any other boy pursuing Indian Classical Music later surprised me. I was watching the TV casually. Suddenly I became very alert and found a young man singing Raag Marwa. I never expected such Gayki and tonal quality from an unknown singer. He presented the Alaap in Vilambit. I heard the entire presentation silently.His gayaki, taans , layakiri etc simply hyptonized me. His range of voice too was unthinkable. Immediately my sense said that a New and a Remarkable Artist is born!  Sorry to learn about his  demise at such an early age. RIP.
