Nahoum, Kolkata.

We have been visiting Nahoum & Sons practically from our school days.Often our father came to school with our Ford Prefect American car. After getting us all into the car he instructed Murari, our driver,to take us towards Hogg Market (New Market). After getting down he took us straight to Nahoum. We were very impressed with two young Nahum brothers. They were oozing with life and asked us what we would like to have - always smiling and playful. Our favourite was,of course, chicken patties & brightly coloured chocolate pastries.Their kosher chicken meat, not available anymore, had a different taste. They had a special way to butcher the chickens hygienically and with minimum pain. Came to know that present owner Adam Nahoum has opted to cease sale of chicken products.Unavailability of koser butcher which the Jewish community always preferred?

A romantic driver !

Most of us have probably heard the song by John Denver "Country roads take me home/To the place I belong." An Andhra Pradesh truck driver, who have been in his duty for a long time, missed his wife.He missed very dearly and was desperate to meet her by any means. He finally reached his village home but came to know that his wife went to Muchumarri, her father's home. He found an APSRTC bus parked at a bus stand.Finding the bus with the key attached,he was unable to control his temptation.Durgaiah (name of the driver) without a second thought, drove the bus towards his wife's village. Unfortunately he was intercepted by police before he reached her.His romantic adventure, to his dismay, only landed him to police custody!

Disappointed thief.

The Maheshwaram eatery, Hyderabad, had a comical experience.A thief entered when it was closed for the night. The close circuit camera recorded the entire happenings from the thief's entering till his leaving with a lot of frustration. He was disgusted to find nothing worth stealing. There was nothing in the cashbox and there was no food to eat! Finally, before leaving, he opened the fridge and found few water bottles. He took one, opend his wallet and left ₹20/- on the table for the bottle. This entire episode got recorded and went viral.

Power of patience!

It was Bernard Shaw who mentioned two things that define us.Your patience when you have nothing And your attitude when you have everything. Alexander the Great's intention was to conquer East India. One of his friends adviced him to wait for the proper moment. In fact he along with his army were tired. But reckless and young Alexander, without heeding the friend's advice, ordered his army to move towards India. Finally he failed in his intention and had to return to Greece. In the way he died! Thus only by dint of inexhaustible patience one get what one wishes.

Cocaine Sharks !

It is quite surprising to find cacain in shark's body.It is a recently found fact by the Brazilian researchers.Last week,in a study that was published, researchers tested at least 13 sharkes and found cocaine in their muscle tissues and liver. This test proved that sharks have 100 times more cocaine than any other marine life previously observed. Oswaldo Cruze Foundation's Rachel Ann Hauser Davis,a co-author of the study and a biologist said,'It's the first time this data has ever been found for any top predater'.

No more toilet paper?

Toilet papers, which the entire developed world uses, are made from ' virgin wood.' It is probably time for advanced countries to learn from poor and developing nations of Asia. Their way of washing is more nature friendly and maintains basic hygine. The Economic Survey is against execcive use of toilet paper and believe that there should be a behavioral change. A single roll toilet paper uses 1.5 pounds of wood, 1.3kwh of electricity and around 37 gallons of water. In this respect Ashian countries provide valuable lessons yet they remain excluded from mainstream discussions.

It is not unusual to find tremendous fan response when an artist performs.Tickets are sold and big halls and stadiums are overcrowded.A lot of commercialism is involved in such shows. Since organisers are aware of their monetary gains they take every precautions to see to it.To create perception, school and college students are involved as genuine audience. In fact these fake fans are paid around Rs200 to Rs500 + free meals to act as cheerleaders. Agents and agencies too are involved.Hence everybody seems happy and 'the show goes on.'
