Grandfather Clock vs Wrist Watch.

As far as l could remember his name was Subhash Roy Chowdhury. It was during those days when one could not stay away with one's friend for even an hour. We both hung around each other whenever we got the slightest opportunity. Subhash lived in a big house near Shyambazar. It was not a house but a mansion.Their ancestors were probably zamindars. In every corners could be found old furnitures, marble statues, antiques etc. One day,it was around night 11pm, when Subhash suddenly called upon me. My room was at a calling distance as l lived in the first floor of the common passage.Since l was fast asleep by that time l failed to respond. However after several calls I finally woke up. During those days 11pm night was considered as midnight.Hence I wondered what brought my friend to call upon me at such late hours. I would like to relate here that l was in Purulia for the last three months and had no news of my friend Subhash.I was at a loss to know that bad times have fallen upon the family. They lost their mansion and along with it every thing that they had.I immediately thought of the Grandfather Clock which was considered as the heart of the big house! To my great relief he said that it was the only precious thing that was spared by the Bank whome they owned a large amount of money. He ardently requested me to keep the Grandfather Clock somewhere for the night and his father would do the rest in the morning. While talking and finding a way out our last bus was gone. Now we have no way but to walk. The mansion stood there like a huge giant and there was darkness surrounding it.The ousted lone Clock stood there! We felt like crying to see our Pride so so humiliated. However we came back to our sences and looked around to see if we could find any cart or thela to carry the Grandfather Clock. There was nothing except a trolley lying overturned near the footpath. Beeing young men we both accepted the challenge ahead. We took a deep breath and somehow placed our Pride on that small trolley. The streets were desolate and a weird darkness seemed to threaten us.Fearlessly we dragged the trolley towards a specific goal. When we were near Hatinagan we encountered a drunkard looking at us for a while. He was saying something which we we didn't care to listen. However when we did hear what he was saying...!!! "You two are fools..instead of simply wearing a wrist watch you are dragging that big clock along." (To continue)
